Our 2nd grade classes have been getting familiar with their new sketchbooks and portfolios, and on week 4 we began to discuss our 3 step process to making a picture. Students will plan out their artwork in their sketchbook, make decisions about media and paper at the paper station, and then use their materials to make a finished piece of artwork on their fresh piece of watercolor or drawing paper. Also during week 4 the new framing station was introduced to students. Each student will reflect on their art-making and select their own artwork for presentation. If a student selects artwork for presentation, they frame and title their work and pass it in to me as "ready for display." I am loving the new watercolor resist paintings that my 2nd graders have been submitting to me!
During our 5th class each student came up with a goal for their year in art, and wrote their goal on the inside cover of their sketchbook. We will revisit these goals half way through the year to check in on our progress, and set new goals for the remainder of the school year in art.
I am absolutely loving getting to know these students and seeing their personalities through their artwork. We've got a great school year ahead of us!
