It has been a great start to the year in Art at Pembroke Village School! Art takes place on Mondays and Tuesdays for Kindergarten students. During our first class together we gathered on our new art room rug to get to know each other and read an inspirational story about making art, Ish by Peter H Reynolds. We also began to discuss what it meant to do a sketch, and began making drawings to be the covers of our new sketchbooks.
Each Kindergarten student will have their own sketchbook to plan out their drawings in. During our second classes each 1st grader received a portfolio (Monday classes on 9/14) to store their artwork in. Both sketchbooks and portfolios will stay at in the art classroom until the end of the school year.
So far Kindergarten students have had access to colored pencils, twistable crayons, pencils, and markers to make their sketchbook covers. As the year progresses, more art materials will be introduced and incorporated into their weekly art making!!
