Thanks to everyone that attended the open house last Thursday! I enjoyed meeting many of you, and look forward to working with you this year. It has been a fantastic start to the school year for the 3rd grade artists at Pembroke Hill School! I have loved getting to know each student and learn a little bit about them through their art making! We started our first class by getting to know each other and the new routines and aspects of the art classroom. Each student made a leaf to go on the art classroom trees, and they were encouraged to make their leaf as unique and wonderful as themselves!
During week two we discussed the concept of sketching, and began to work on covers for our new sketchbooks! Each 3rd grade artist will have their own sketch-booklet that will stay in the art classroom. Students will use their sketchbooks to plan out their ideas with pencil before diving in with additional art media.
During week three each student received their own artist's portfolio, and we discussed how a portfolio is used to store our artwork and keep it safe. These will also stay in the art classroom during the school year. Watercolor was added as a media option this week, and demonstrated with crayon for an introduction to watercolor resist! More fun ahead as we approach week four! :)
